Australian universities continue to climb up the international rankings, which means global interest towards the faculties is going to grow in the coming years. Which are the top ten universities in Australia? Here’s a look at the top universities and a few tips on how to choose your institution.

Top 10 Universities

1. Australian National University (ANU)

ANU is located in the capital city of Australia and it’s the only one in the country, specifically created by the Parliament of Australia. The university is highly regarded in the fields of politics, geography, linguistics and science courses.

In the global ranking, the university took a joint 19th spot with United Kingdom’s King’s College London. It was the country’s only university in the top-20, with the rest following on rankings above 40.

2. University of Sydney

Unsurprisingly, it is the big cities that control the top spots in the rankings and, therefore University of Sydney is the third best university in the country. The beautiful university, with its famous main campus, is most known for its politics and economic departments.

3. University of Melbourne

The University of Melbourne has been competing with ANU for the top spot for a while now, but once again had to settle for the second spot. The university is famous for its teaching in the fields of education, accounting, psychology and medicine.

Tips to pick your university

Hopefully, the above guide gives you an inclination of the top universities in the country and the ones you should aspire towards. The key to finding the right university is considering the subject you want to study. Certain universities, as we explained above, are specialised in specific fields. While another university might rank higher in the overall rankings, it might be on top in a specific department and therefore, you always want to look at the individual subject, as well as the bigger picture.

If you can’t quite decide where to study, you should also talk to previous and current students. Check out university-specific Facebook and LinkedIn groups to ask questions that you have regarding the institution. Finally, learn about the University Open Days all campuses hold annually and visit the universities before making your final decision.

The above list of the best Australian universities is constantly changing, so you want to regularly check the rankings to see which institution is at the top. For students, this means better research and learning opportunities in an open and inviting environment.
